The Romanian Mathematical Society (RMS) is one of the oldest scientific societies in Romania, founded in 1910 under the name of Gazeta Matematica Society, and it is aimed at contributing to the reinforcement and improvement of mathematical education, training and research.
At the moment, there are over 5,000 members, teachers in the university and pre-university education, researchers and students.
RMS, also known as SSMR locally, was the initiator of the National Mathematical Olympiad in 1950 and of the International Olympiad (IMO) in 1959. Moreover, RMS is currently a key partner in organizing and in the training of the students of the Romanian team at IMO/BMO and other international math contests (a total of 20.000 students participate every year at all stages and around 550 students at the national stage).
